We will have practice tomorrow, Sunday, at 2:00. We are scheduled to play a makeup game with the Cubs this Wednesday at 5:30. I think we will play a game at Stone Crest this Saturday but I haven't been given a time yet. Hope to see everyone at practice.

Game 11: Mets 12 Cards 4

We got off to a slow start, scoring only 3 runs total in the first three innings but rallied for 9 runs in the last two innings. The defense was excellent, allowing only 4 runs for the Cardinals.
Thanks to Ronald for being the concession stand "mom". They said he made a mean hotdog.

Bradyn practicing his batting stance.

Hitters of the game: Jaxon went 4 for 4 and scored 3 times. Hunter went 3 for 3 scoring twice. Grant, Kyle, and Laken each had 3 hits. Kaitlyn had two hits. Byron, Bradyn, and Kayla each had a hit. Kayley hit a ball hard but it just went foul.

Kayla swinging and hitting the ball hard.

Fielders of the game: Kayla made two good stops in the outfield and got the ball back in very quickly. Kaitlyn and Hunter each made a good stop and got the ball back in quickly. Laken made a couple of good stops and was able to throw one to first to get an out. Kyle got a couple of runners out. Jaxon made two good stops and beat the runners to the base for a couple of outs. Although everyone did well in the field, the defensive player of the game would have to be Big Guy(Grant). He accounted for 7 outs himself and assisted in two others by throwing to Jaxon at first. The game ended on an unassisted double play by Grant. The second in two games with Jaxon getting one in the last game. Grant caught a line drive for one out and then tagged the runner going from third to home for the second. Thank you Grant for choosing baseball over soccer tonight.

Big Guy to Jaxon

Laken made a good stop and throw to first for the out.

We missed you Aaron. Hope you and your mom get feeling better soon.

Keep checking the blog for updates on possible makeup games and a possible game at Stone Crest Saturday, June 6th.

The tournament starts Monday, June 8th. We will probably play either that Monday or Tuesday. Please keep your schedule open that week.

Weather permitting, we will have practice this Sunday at 2:00. See you then.

Game Canceled for Monday

The game for tonight has been canceled. It was a combination of bad weather and players for other teams being out of town. No makeup date has been scheduled. Hopefully we'll get to play Thursday.

Game 10: Mets 16 Reds 10

After leading 16 to 4 going into the bottom of the last inning the Mets hung on to win 16 to 10. Thanks to Kris and Paige for working the concession stand. I heard they had a large amount of sales last night. I'm not sure if everyone was just really hungry or if the boys were just wanting to talk to Paige.

Paige and Kris

Kyle's glad he's got his swing back.

And there's Kyle's swing.

Kayla, happy to be on base.

Hitters of the game: Jaxon, Kyle, Bradyn, and Hunter all went 3 for 3. One of Bradyn's hits was a home run. Grant, Byron, Kayla, and Kaitlyn each had 2 hits. Aaron was 1 for 2 and Laken only got to bat once but she did get a hit as usual. Kayley hit a ball hard but it just went foul.

Defensive duo of the game, Jaxon and Grant.

Fielders of the game: Hunter was excellent going to get balls in the outfield and getting them back in quickly. Kaitlyn made some good stops when she played second. Kayla just about caught a fly ball in the outfield. Byron made a couple of good stops at third and did get one out. Kyle made a good stop and tagged a runner out. Grant made a bunch of good stops including completing an out by tagging a runner going to third. Jaxon had an unassisted double play, very close to being an unassisted triple play, by catching a line drive for one out, tagging first base for the second out, and almost beating the runner back to second for the third. The defensive duo of the game was Grant to Jaxon. Four times there was a ball hit to Grant and he threw to Jaxon for outs. The Reds hit the ball well but the Mets were able to make the plays to get the outs.

Mets Fans of the Game

David, Kyle's dad with his Mets hat.

2009 Mets

We probably should have a practice but with it being Memorial Day weekend I didn't want to take the kids away from family activities. As far as I know, we still play Monday.

Game 9: Mets 7 Cards 6

Whew! That was a close one. It took a run in the bottom of the last inning but the Mets won their ninth game. I'm very please with how we are playing defense but we need to get back on track hitting the ball. Hopefully we can squeeze in a batting practice session soon.

Thank you Andrea for working the concession in Angie's place!

Hitters of the game: Grant and Jaxon each went 3 for 3. Byron, Hunter, and Bradyn each had two hits. Laken, Kaitlyn, and Aaron had a hit apiece. Jaxon hit a three-run homer and Byron drove in Big Guy for the winning run in the bottom of the last inning.

Jaxon homered in the second. It must have been the shades.

Fielders of the game: Kaitlyn, Hunter, and Kayla all made good stops in the outfield and got the ball back in quickly. Kyle made some good stops and got a couple of runners out. Grant got a runner out at third. Jaxon got a runner out at first. Grant and Jaxon teamed up for three throw and catch outs from pitchers mound to first. Bradyn did a good job behind the plate.

Jaxon Fielding

Jaxon ready to round third. (I bet you can't guess whose parent does the blog.)

The Lady Mets

It's a shame they're all so camera shy.

Good game Mets. Be looking for an announcement about a possible practice in the next day or two. See you Thursday.

First Road Game Ever: Mets 8 Rangers 4

For the first time in my four years of coaching the Mets had a road game. Teams from HAP played teams from the Prestonsburg league at Stone Crest. The Mets played a good game beating the Rangers by four runs. For the moms, the best part was no one had to work the concession stand.

So much for being excited with the win.

Hitters of the game: Grant, Jaxon, Laken, and Bradyn each had three hits. Kyle, Byron, and Hunter had two hits apiece. Instead of getting a hit, Aaron got hit(by his coach). Sorry Aaron.

Byron picking up his 3rd base coach as he approaches 2nd. Just like he's suppose to.

Fielding plays of the game: Kayla made a good stop at second and threw to Jaxon but the speedy runner was able to beat the throw. Laken and Hunter each made good stops in the outfield and got it back to the infield very quickly. Byron made a stop and tagged third for an out. Byron also made a stop and threw all the way to first and Jaxon caught it. The runner was called safe but, from where I was, it looked like the throw barely beat the runner. It was a great play anyway. Grant made a couple of good stops but the best was when he whirled and threw to Kyle at second base for the out. Very impressive. Jaxon made a stop and got the out at first. Kyle got three or four outs himself by running to the base or tagging the runner.

Post-game talk

Angie, dugout mom and bookkeeper.

The coaching staff. Donnie, me, and Brad. Breck did make it for the finish.

By the way, I was just kidding about asking Breck to give them a pre-game pep talk Friday night . Everyone was telling jokes during the rain delay. I wish we could have gotten a video of them all.

See everyone Monday night.

The Pre-game Pep Talk

I told Breck to go in the dugout and give the Mets a pre-game pep talk to get them ready for the game. Here's what he told them.

Game 8: Mets vs. Cubs (Make-up/Rained Out Again)

This wasn't much of a game, but I did get some good pictures.
Thanks to Sandra, Grant's mom for working the concession stand. I think she got a lot of business while we were waiting on the rain to stop.Hunter and Grant waiting.

The boys waiting on the Reds team to show up.

Kyle, Jaxon, & Bradyn in the dugout waiting.

Kayla, Laken, & Kaitlyn waiting.

Byron & Aaron waiting.

Mets Fans!

Grant ready to bat. Gray sky moving in.

Kyle running around the bases because he just scored a HOME RUN!

That was the game! I have a great video of Breck telling a joke in the dugout. If he'll give me permission I'll post it on here.

See you at Stone Crest today @ 11:30 a.m.

Game 7: Cubs 5 Mets 9

Let me apologize in advance for not noting every play. Randy is still at the park (with the score book) and I wanted to make sure we posted the pictures from tonight's game as well as remind you about tomorrow night's game.

REMINDER:

Game tomorrow (Friday) at Allen. Be there by 5:15 p.m.

Game Saturday at Stone Crest. Be there by 11:30 a.m.

Thanks to Laken's mom for working the concession!Teresa

Laken ready to play ball!

Defense:
Grant made a great stop, threw it to Jaxon and got the runner out!

Kyle got a runner out at second!

Jaxon got a runner out at first!

Hunter made a great stop in the outfield and threw it in to stop the Cubs from scoring!

Offense:

Kyle got an inside the park Grand Slam!
Jaxon got a hit that brought two runners home (Grant & Hunter)

Aaron got a hit and played musical bases. Very entertaining.

Grant, Hunter, Laken, Kaitlyn, Byron & Brayden all got hits tonight! I don't remember how many each of you had (sorry), but I remember seeing you on a base a time or two!

I didn't get many pictures tonight. I get too involved in the game, keeping score, or getting the next batter ready.

We need a team photographer. Any volunteers?

Also, thanks for taking the time to let us know that you enjoy the blog. We love it too. You can print each post for your own scrapbook if you like.

Yay, we won!

Byron was pooped!

It doesn't matter if you win or lose. It's how you play the game. But, winning is fun!

Randy is so much better at this than I am. Maybe he can edit this when he gets home.

Go Mets! See you tomorrow!

Practice Pics

What does an undefeated team do on a day off? Practice! I sure got a workout running those bases with you.

Randy hitting to...
Grant is ready for it!
He throws it to Jaxon!
That looks so good in a game. Way to go boys!

Grounder to Laken and she's got her eye on the ball!

Kayley always makes a stop!

Kyle knows how to run through 1st!

Good Job Mets!

Practice Tomorrow(Wednesday)

Since there is no school in Floyd County tomorrow and I'm off as well, anyone that wants to practice can come to the field at 11:00 and we'll practice until about 1:00. If you can't that's fine but I thought I'd take advantage of the opportunity. Please hit the comments button and let me know you've read the message. I'll call the ones that haven't replied later tonight.

Game 6: Mets 11 Reds 5

Thank you Andrea for working the concession stand. I hope you got to see Hunter's two hits.

Andrea

Hunter

Hitters of the game: Kyle and Jaxon each had four hits. Grant(Big Guy) had 3 hits. Byron, Aaron, and Hunter each had two hits and Bradyn and Kayley each had a hit. The big hit was Byron's ball that went all the way to the fence. He flew around the bases for a home run.

Bases full of Mets
Fielders of the game: Kyle got about 5 outs. He caught a line drive with the sun right in his eyes, got about 3 outs himself, and made a good throw to first where Jaxon caught it to complete the out. Throwing from short to first is long throw so that one was probably my favorite. Jaxon made a couple of stops and took it to first for the out. Grant just about caught a pop up but still was able to throw it to first in time to get the out. Byron made a good stop at third and also would have gotten the final out of the game on a ball he stopped and stepped on third but the ball was just foul. Aaron, Hunter, and Kayley all made good stops in the outfield and got the ball back in very quickly.

Jaxon(1st baseman) getting the ball and Grant(pitcher) covering first.
It makes me so happy when players do what they're suppose to do.
Byron ready to catch the ball.

Celebration time!

We missed you Laken, Kayla, and Kaitlyn.

We have a game Thursday vs the Cubs. We will probably play a doubleheader this Saturday morning against teams from the Prestonsburg league at Stonecrest. I should know more Thursday but the games will probably start around 10:00 or 11:00.

See you Thursday.
Randy
