Championship Game: Mets 18 Cardinals 2

2009 HAP Coach Pitch Regular Season and Tournament Undefeated Champions

Hunter, Grant(Big Guy), Kayla, Kaitlyn, Laken, Kayley, Aaron, Bradyn, Byron, Kyle, and Jaxon.

The Mets concluded their HAP season winning the championship game 18 to 2 verses the Cardinals. Their record for all HAP games was 14 and 0. I've heard other coaches in different leagues and age groups complain about some of their parents but I've been very fortunate to have the kids and the parents that I've had this year. Thank you to all parents for having your kids there and for not complaining about my coaching decisions, at least not to me. Thank you to Breck and Donnie, and others that filled in when they couldn't be there, for helping me coach. A big thank you to my wife Angie for keeping the scorebook, controlling the dugout, and taking pictures. Hopefully we can get together for a final Mets party sometime after the HAP pool party.

Some of those parents, Deana, Kris, Sandy, and David.

Hitters of the game: Kyle got 4 hits and drove in about 6 runs. Grant, Jaxon, Byron, and Laken each got 3 hits. Hunter, and Kayla got 2 hits and Bradyn, Aaron, and Kaitlyn each got a hit.

Aaron, heading back to the dugout after scoring a run.

Kyle and Jaxon sporting their "champions" medallions.

Fielders of the game: Jaxon got two outs at first. Kyle got two outs and Grant threw to Jaxon for an out. Laken made a good stop at second. I have the most trouble remembering all the plays in the field so forgive me if I forget to mention something someone did.

See everyone Wednesday at the pool party. Remember to bring a 2-liter of pop.

Kaitlyn made it to third but was running so fast she
was tagged out when she barely overran the base.

Fielders of the game: Kaitlyn stopped a ball in the outfield and got it back in quickly. Grant stopped the ball and threw to Jaxon three times for outs. Kyle got two outs at second and Jaxon got an out at first. Byron made a good stop at third.

Kyle, Byron, and Big Guy all going for the ball.

Angie said to tell the girls that she was proud of the way they played.

Kaitlyn and Kayley, happy they won.

Monday is the championship. Please be there on time. Remember that Wednesday is the pool party. Each parent is to bring a 2-liter of pop.

Game Rescheduled for Tomorrow(Friday) @ 5:30

Tonights game has been rescheduled for tomorrow(Friday) at 5:30. Win or lose we will probably play again sometime Saturday. Please leave a comment letting me know if you'll be there Friday.

Game Cancelled

Tonight's game (6-11-09) has been cancelled. We may play tomorrow, but we're not certain. We'll post as soon as we know. Please leave a comment so we will know that you got the message.

Game is Still On

I was just told that as of now, the game tonight is still on. The coach-pitch game last night was cancelled but we are playing tonight as scheduled unless we have some more rain. It's the tournament so please try to be there by 5:15.

Game Thursday

We will play the Cubs, who beat the Cardinals tonight, Thursday at 5:30. If we win that game we will play in the championship game Saturday. If we lose we will play Friday. Some of the rules will be different in the tournament. The coach-pitcher is suppose to have at least one foot in the circle which is not much different than I've been doing all year to most batters. For the tournament we will have a 9 player lineup instead of 10. If a team as fewer than 9 players they will get an out for each missing player. For example, if a team has only 8 players then each time the 9th spot in the batting order comes up it will be an automatic out. I like this rule since we usually have enough players but the other teams may only have 6 or 7. The more the better in the field but if you only have 7 players and it's your best 7 hitters it can help your offense a lot. This rule keeps a team from having an advantage for having less than 9 players. So let's be sure we have at least 9, hopefully all 11, players there. Please hit the comments button and let me know if you'll be there.

Tournament Game 1: Mets Win!

Technically the game was a forfeit since the Reds only had 4 players show up. We had three players volunteer to play for the Reds so we could at least play a game. Thank you Kayley, Aaron, and Kaitlyn for volunteering. Wouldn't you know that Aaron made a good defensive play against his own team for an out. Kaitlyn got a hit while on the other team and Kayley made a couple of good plays in the outfield while playing for the Reds. The practice game ended up with a score of 16 to 0 in favor of the Mets.

After the downpour around 4:00, it took a lot of dragging but the field was in good enough shape to play.

Hitters of the Game: Kaitlyn hit the ball twice while playing for the Reds getting on base once and getting out on a play from Grant to Jaxon the other time. Grant, Jaxon, Kyle, and Byron all got 4 hits. Hunter, Laken, and Bradyn each got 3 hits and Kayla got a hit.

Big Guy, baseball player at night...

John Travolta impersonater during the day.

Fielders of the Game: While playing for the Reds, Aaron made a good stop and ran to third to get a Met out. Kaitlyn made some good stops at third and Kayley made a couple of good stops in the outfield. For the Mets, Kyle got three outs himself. Grant got two outs himself and threw one to Jaxon for another. Jaxon got an out at first.

"Good game" line.

Hunter, happy he didn't volunteer to play for the other team.

Our next game will be Thursday(not Wednesday), They had it wrong when they said Wednesday so it will be Thursday at the same time. We will play the winner of the Cubs and Cardinals game who play Tuesday. If we win we would play Saturday and if we lose it will be Friday. These dates could change if weather causes some cancellations.

Tournament Game Tomorrow(Monday)

We play the Reds in the first game of the tournament tomorrow(Monday) at 5:30. Please be there by 5:15. They want to start as quick as possible so the games can be completed in the time we're alloted. I think it's double-elimination which means it will take anywhere from 3 to 5 games to win the tournament, so keep your schedules clear this week.

Road Trip # 2

The Mets made their second road trip of the year returning to StoneCrest to play a doubleheader. They didn't play their best games of the year but still played hard and hopefully enjoyed the beautiful day. In the first game the Prestonsburg Yankees won 15 to 7. It was 10 to 7 when the Yankees scored 5 runs in their last at bat. In the second game, the Prestonsburg Red Sox won 10-9 by scoring a run in the bottom of the last inning to break the 9-9 tie. I'm not one to usually make excuses but when you see the post game pictures below you'll see why I want the Mets feel a little better about the games. In the first game the Yankees were 3 players short so they got 3 of the better players(if not the best) from the Red Sox to be able to have enough. In the second game the Red Sox were one short and their coach asked me if his older son could play. He said he would definitely understand if I said no but he's a good guy and his son is a good boy so I told him it was fine with me. He's a good player and his plays in the outfield, including a catch of a very well hit ball by Kyle, not to mention his hitting made a difference. In each instance I was asked if it was alright and I agreed since they allowed some HAP teams to borrow players the last time we were there. Hopefully it was good preparation for the tournament.

Pre-game dugout

Hitters of the games: For the day Jaxon, Kyle, and Byron all had 6 hits. Bradyn had 4 hits, Grant had 3, Laken and Hunter each had 2 hits and Kayla had a big hit that drove in a much needed run. Kaitlyn hit the ball a couple of times but they got the out at first.

Fielders of the game: We didn't field the ball like we usually do but we made a few plays in the second game. For the day Bradyn got out of his catchers crouch very quickly to get the ball and make an out at home. Kyle got 4 outs himself and threw to Jaxon for another out. Grant got an out himself and threw to Jaxon for another. Jaxon caught a line drive on one play and got two more outs on ground balls to first.

I think you can tell that the pictures below were post game.

Fan of the game, Hunter with dad, coach Breck.

The tournament starts Monday. We play the Reds at 5:30. Please try to be there by 5:15 at the latest. They will try to start the games on time so we can get the completed in time.

Tournament Game Monday

We are scheduled to play the first game in the tournament Monday. They haven't told me who we play but the last I heard is we do play Monday. I assume it's the same time as always. We will not practice tomorrow(Sunday) the field will not be available. I'll try to post about todays games sometime tomorrow.

Games Saturday at StoneCrest

We have two games scheduled for this Saturday at StoneCrest. The first one starts at 11:00 and the second will start right after the first, probably around 12:30. Please try to be there no later than 10:45. They usually start on time at StoneCrest. I'll be there by 10:30. Please hit the comments button and let me know if you can be there Saturday. Hopefully at least 9 of you can make it.

Game 12: Mets 25 Cubs 5

The most unusual game of the year. We had only 5 players show up and the Cubs only had 6. We played anyway. With only 5 players, by the time someone would score it would be their time to bat again. We played 5 innings and each player got to bat about 8 times. There is a 5 run limit to each inning and we got our 5 each time.

Thank you Sylvia for being the "concession stand mom" even though you're Big Guy's sister.

Sylvia

How much did you charge for the frog legs?

Hitters of the game: Jaxon and Kyle each went 8 for 8. Jaxon had two homeruns and Kyle had one or two as well. Big Guy, Byron, and Aaron each had 6 hits.

Aaron, happily running to first after a big hit.

Byron batting with Kyle on first, Jaxon on second, and Big Guy on third.

Fielders of the game: Byron made a couple of good stops and got one runner out at third. Kyle got two outs at second. Big Guy got a runner out going to first. Jaxon got a runner out at first and made a couple of good catches on throws from other players that were almost outs. With only 5 players, the infielders were also the outfielders. Aaron was playing second base but did a good job going out to the outfield to get a couple of balls.

The infielders becoming outfielders.

Kyle and Aaron trying to stop the ball and Jaxon going to cover first.

The fab five. Kyle, Big Guy, Jaxon, Aaron, and Byron, celebrating their win. Aaron had his best game ever. It must have been the shades.

We have two games scheduled for this Saturday at StoneCrest. The first one starts at 11:00 and the second will start right after the first, probably around 12:30. Please try to be there no later than 10:45. They usually start on time at StoneCrest. I'll be there by 10:30.

We have a game tomorrow(Wednesday) at 5:30. We have a few that may not be able to make it so anyone that can, please try to be there. I've not heard anything more about the possible game Saturday at Stone Crest.
